Nowadays Association of Ukrainian Cities - all-Ukrainian union of local self-government bodies - unites about 400 towns and cities of our motherland. Territorial communities entrusted us to represent their will, protect their interests and defend their right to live in the state where economic and political freedoms will become the source of the nation well-being and citizens' talents revealing. It can be done on the condition of adherence to the principles of democratic society, i.e. close collaboration of authorities and communities. Now we are working on it.
In Ukraine defining grounds of territorial authorities
based on democratic principles of the European Charter of Local Self-government are in
process of formation now. We made an important step forward to the assertion and
strengthening of local authorities by adoption of the Charter of Ukrainian Cities that
united the efforts of local self-government bodies, non-governmental and other
organizations in political, social and economic problems resolving, living conditions of
residents improvement.
Cities of Ukraine are the centers of its economic and cultural life. 80% of the population
of Ukraine live in the cities.
We need the support of reliable partners and real protectors of local self-government in understanding of our ideas and practical steps.
